It is a French commune located in the department of Deux Sèvres in the Poitou Charentes region.
The historical-artistic city of Thouars is located on a rocky promontory, on top of a Thouet meander, and has a rich architectural heritage.
The of the Dukes of la Trémoïlle castle, declared Historical Monument, dominates the valley from the top of its large Luis XIII style façade. This castle was built in the 17th century by order of "Marie de La Tour of Auvergne".
Next to the castle, the holy chapel of Our Lady (early sixteenth century), presents a splendid flamboyant Gothic style facade enhanced by a Renaissance gallery.
